On Monday, July 21, 2025, Ms. Sucharee Picha, Director of the Office of Agricultural Economics Region 1, participated in the field inspection visit of the Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives and the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives (Mr. Akara Promphao), along with the ministry’s executive team, in Chiang Mai Province.
In the morning, they attended the opening ceremony of the project “Longan Growers’ Unity to Elevate Production Standards for Sustainable Global Market Competitiveness 2025.” The Minister delivered policy directives and proposed guidelines for addressing the declining prices of longan, and listened to opinions from representatives of longan farmers from eight northern provinces: Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Lampang, Mae Hong Son, Phayao, Phrae, and Nan.
In addition, the Director of the Office of Agricultural Economics Region 1 also attended a preparedness meeting for Tropical Storm “Wipha” (WHI PAF). The Minister instructed all agencies under the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives to implement effective management strategies and prepare to assist farmers. This included establishing an early warning system and a War Room for coordination and prompt farmer support. The meeting was held at the Sports Center Conference Room, Maejo University, Nong Han Subdistrict, San Sai District, Chiang Mai Province.
In the afternoon, the delegation visited the Mae Wang Reservoir Project at the Mae Wang District Office, Ban Kad Subdistrict, Chiang Mai Province. Government agencies, local farmers, and the general public attended to hear progress updates on the project and to exchange information on issues, challenges, and proposed solutions regarding water usage for agriculture and domestic consumption in the area.
