Office of Agricultural Economics Emblem

Description of the Emblem:

The emblem of the Office of Agricultural Economics is circular with a diameter of 6 centimeters. At the center is the image of Phra Phirun (Varuna), seated on a throne with his right leg hanging down. His right hand holds a vessel pouring celestial water, and his left hand bestows blessings. He is seated within a traditional Thai-style arch (Ruen Kaew). On either side of the arch are six stylized rice stalks, forming traditional Thai patterns (laai ruang khao). Below the arch is a silk ribbon inscribed with a Pali Buddhist phrase:
“Sabbesaṃ saṅghabhūtānaṃ samaggī vuḍḍhisādhikā”
meaning “Unity among those who live in harmony brings about prosperity.”
The outer bottom part of the emblem bears the name: “Office of Agricultural Economics.”

Meaning of the Emblem:

  1. Phra Phirun (Varuna):
In Hindu mythology, Varuna is the eldest of the eight solar deities, son of the sage Kashyapa and Aditi. In the Vedas, he is the guardian of the western direction and the deity of water (particularly rain), the ocean, and the atmosphere. In the emblem, he is depicted seated with his right leg lowered, watching over the well-being of the people, particularly in agricultural matters. His right hand pours divine water to nurture crops and ensure bountiful harvests, while his left hand bestows blessings for success in agricultural endeavors. His face reflects compassion and justice, symbolizing his protection and support for all farmers.
  2. Six Rice Stalks in Thai Pattern:
These represent the six main divisions (referred to as “bureaus”) within the Office of Agricultural Economics. The rice stalks, nourished by the divine water from Phra Phirun, symbolize the growth and productivity of Thai agriculture. Just as the six stalks grow and spread seeds, the six bureaus extend knowledge and support to farmers throughout the country, promoting national prosperity.
  3. Pali Phrase on the Ribbon:
Sabbesa saghabhūtāna samaggī vuḍḍhisādhikā” translates as “Unity among those who live in harmony brings about prosperity.”
This emphasizes the importance of unity and collaboration in achieving growth and success.
  4. Text “Office of Agricultural Economics”:
This indicates that the emblem belongs to this government agency.
